Location: Pamporovo is a modern ski resort in the heart of the Rhodopi mountain, the mountain of the mythical singer Orpheus. It is the most southern skiing resort in Europe. It is the sunniest Bulgarian mountain resort with wonderful snow throughout the whole season. Pamporovo is situated on 1650 m above the sea level at the foot of peak Snejanka (1926 m). It is 240 km far from Sofia and 85 km from Plovdiv.
History: Pamporovo received its name from the convoys of mules of the Raicho Belev, a man from the town of Smolyan, which followed one another as the wagons of a train (from the Turkish word for “train” - pampor) carrying goods. A man from Chepelare - Chichovski - built the first tourist hostel here in 1933 thus establishing the present resort.
Climate: Due to the influence of the Mediterranean climate the temperatures in the resort have small daily variations. The surrounding high peaks keep it from the winds and in winter preserve the snow cover on the northern slopes of the Snezhanka and Murgavets peaks. One day on the slopes of Pamporovo is enough to give you a nice golden tan. There are more than 120 sunny days and average snow layer of 140-150 cm. And the temperature never fall below – 7 C.
Places of Interest: Tourists can visit also the Momchilovtsi resort (17 km) and the ethnographical complex of Shiroka luka (10 km), and to the north is located the town of Chepelare.
Ski runs: All ski runs are safe guarded and maintained in a very good condition. More than 100 highly qualified ski instructors fluent in different languages are here to teach both beginners and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Ski rentals are available near the ski runs and the lift stations, you can book ski equipment rental, ski school, lift pass with us. The ski runs in Pamporovo come in all hardship levels. They are located between 1926 and 1450 m above the sea level on the northern, eastern and western slopes of The Snejanka peak. The most difficult ski piste is "The Wall”. All major ski runs start from the peak of the mountain, where the TV tower is located. Great off-piste skiing and snowboarding is available in this resort, however we recommend using a local guide when going off-piste
Catering: A number of cosy restaurants offer traditional Bulgarian (Rhodope) cuisine. An example is the Chevermeto folk restaurant (mehana) where the visitor should try the incredible Rhodope lamb shish-kebab.
